The Otago Polytechnic Turf in Action Information Day was a fantastic chance for students to check out our venues and listen to the experts talk turf.
Local high school students and Cromwell Polytechnic students spent the day down at Forsyth Barr Stadium and the University of Otago Oval. They had a chance to listen to the experts talk about what a career in Sports Turf Management might look like. Dunedin Venues Groundsman Mike Watson and Assistant Turf Manager Jayden Tohill talked them through all the in's and out's of what's involved in growing world class turf for multi purpose venues, with or without a roof.
Peter Calder from John Deere and Brandon Parker from PGG Wrightson also came along to speak to the students about machinery, fertiliser and seed. We hope they left inspired and consider embarking on a new career in turf management.
Check out a few photos from the day.
